How to make a QR code with a logo that still scans
Start with dark dots on a light background, keep the center image small, and test the finished design before you print it. QR Polish checks the rendered code in your browser and shows which checks pass.
CreateA practical three-step workflow
1. Add your content
Choose a URL, text, Wi-Fi details, contact, email, phone number, or SMS. Shorter content usually produces a less dense code.
2. Style with room to scan
Pick colors and dot shapes, then add a center icon if needed. Avoid inverted colors and keep the icon below 30% of the code width.
3. Check, polish, and test
Read the live scan results. If a warning appears, use Polish it, then scan the exported file with the phones and apps your audience uses.
What QR Polish actually checks
QR Polish renders the code and uses a software decoder to compare the decoded result with your original content in four conditions:
- Original
- Shrunk to half size
- Shrunk and slightly blurred
- Grayscale with low contrast
The score also checks for at least 3:1 color contrast, dark dots on a light background, and a center icon no wider than 30%. These design rules can flag a risk even when the software decoder reads the code.
What Polish it changes
Polish it tries changes one at a time: correct inverted colors, increase contrast, shrink the center icon, and switch to square dots. It runs the scan check again after each change. You can review the result before downloading PNG or SVG.
What a passing check does not prove
A software pass does not guarantee every camera, screen, print size, material, or lighting condition will work. Test the final exported code on a real phone before printing. The bulk generator does not scan-check each code in a ZIP, so sample-check a batch before production.
Common questions
Can a center logo make a QR code unreadable?
Yes. A logo hides some code modules. Keep it small, use a high error-correction level, and test the exported image.
Do QR Polish codes expire?
The QR code itself does not expire because it stores its content directly. If it contains a website URL, that destination can still change or go offline.
Is my content uploaded for the scan check?
No. Generation and scan checks run in your browser. Uploaded center images are processed and stored on this device.
